Let’s face it. There are few venues in the UK which can rival the grandeur and atmosphere of Kew Gardens in London. The iconic glasshouses, sweeping grounds, and natural beauty, it’s the kind of wedding venue that already feels cinematic before you even have your guests in place (or your solo cellist!). Add live cello into the mix, and the whole day takes on a fabulous energy.
For this performance, I recorded La Vie En Rose in the Nash Conservatory at Kew Gardens – one of the most popular spaces for wedding ceremonies. Its glass windows, natural light, and elegant structure created an incredible backdrop for my wedding performance. The sound of the cello carried beautifully in the space, adding warmth and intimacy without overpowering the setting.
Kew Gardens Wedding Music Inspiration
La Vie En Rose is one of the most recognisable French love songs, carrying a romance that’s perfect for weddings. Some will know it from Edith Piaf, others from Louis Armstrong, though for me, I discovered it thanks to its cute appearance in Disney Pixar’s Wall-E. Wherever you know it from, it’s bound to elicit a romantic vibe.
Here’s Olivia and Robert requested for their wedding cerermony music:
GUESTS ARRIVING: R&B, Soul, Blues, Jazz
BRIDAL PARTY: Etta James – At Last
SIGNING: Wall-E – La Vie En Rose
EXIT: Louis Armstrong – What A Wonderful World
All pieces were performed on solo cello with no backing tracks.
Why Cello Works So Well at Kew Gardens
Kew’s architecture and atmosphere give you moments of both intimacy and scale – soaring glasshouses, quiet garden spaces, and sweeping views. Solo cello slotted in so effortlessly here, it was such a joy to perform. It filled the space with richness – in this case, even over the constant hum of the hot summer fans – but it never overwhelmed the event. For this particular wedding, I provided music for guests arriving and the ceremony, and the start of the drinks reception. The sound blends with the venue in a way that feels natural and elegant.
Performing in the Nash Conservatory reminded me how live cello adds sooooo much presence as live music. Guests stop, listen, and become a part of the whole experience! The whole space shifts into something even more special, and it feels absolutely gorgeous.
